Monday’s Historical Image
“This is America…where you vote as you please.”
During World War II, the government made a super human effort to expand voter turnout. With so many soldiers deployed overseas and so much of the population mobile, there was real concern about a decline in turnout. And that would not do for a democratic nation fighting against tyranny. So the government launched a major campaign to get people to vote. And it seems to have worked; voter turnout actually went up. This poster is one example of the effort.
Sometimes. today, it’s not exactly clear whether anyone cares much. Oh sure, each party has its Get Out The Vote campaign (or the opposite as it happens). But the focus seems to be on getting out the vote for partisan advantage not just for the overall health of our democracy.

Adorbs. Remember we here at Electoral Dysfunction are never above either kitten videos or male impotence jokes if it gets you to vote.
